Kylie's class took a field trip to Ballentine Farm and I got to go! We had a beautiful day and it was a blast! The purpose was to study "Pumpkin Science" so the kids had 3 parts - 1/3 to eat lunch, 1/3 to take a hayride and tour the farm and 1/3 to do pumpkin science! It's this great little farm not far from here that is family owned and operated. They run summer camps in the summer and are hoping to open up their own hands-on school next year. We had a blast learning all about pumpkins and farm animals!

Learning about the chickens - most of them had feathers missing in large bald spots - and I asked why that is. The guy explained that there literally is a "pecking order" and the bully chickens pick on the other chickens. Then explained that they had 50 chickens, but the ones outside were the "bullies" and they couldn't be trusted inside the coop!

The one chicken without any feathers missing - the guy said he was the biggest bully of them all!

Talking about their 3 goats...and getting his shirt and shoes nibbled on in the process!
Splitting open a pumpkin seed to see what is in there!
They got to measure the circumference of the pumpkin, weigh it, count seeds, smell it and do other fun things with 6 different kinds of pumpkins! Ours was called a Long Island Cheddar pumpkin because of it's rich orange color!
