Megan's 5th Grade Moving On Ceremony

 Megan had her 5th Grade Moving On Ceremony on June 4th!  Unfortunately she, Dan and Jack were all sick with a quick 24 hour bug the night before.  She and Jack stayed home from school that morning and we took them at 11am when she needed to be there!  The dress was "black and white" nice outfits, so she was able to borrow a pretty dress from her friend Ava for the day!  We were also told that no younger siblings were allowed to come so we didn't have Kylie there (she was in her class since it was in the middle of the morning).  In true Kuwaiti fashion that was not heeded and there were many younger siblings there and I was bummed we hadn't gotten Kylie out of her class!

 Megan looked beautiful but didn't really feel well.

 They had a contest to design the Moving On Brochure and Megan won!  Here are 2 brochures held together to see the front and back - the plane wrapped around the whole thing.  It says "Middle School Airlines:  Getting you from Elementary School to Middle School since 1964".  :)

 This is after all the 5th graders entered.  They were seated on the sides of the auditorium, but we couldn't see them because all the parents got out of their seats as soon as they entered to take pictures...or stood on their chairs with telephoto lenses to take pics.  It's crazy!

 All of the 5th grade teachers came up on stage while they read off the names of the recipients of 3 different groups of kids.  The first group was a boy and girl from each class who were chosen for the Citizenship Award for being good citizens and students!  The second group were kids who received the Presidential Silver Award given out by the Department of State to kids who get straight A's throughout the year and also scored in the top 20% of 5th graders who took the MAPS test.  The third group were kids who received the Presidential Gold Award to kids who got straight A's all 4 quarters and also scored in the top 10% of all 5th graders around the world who took the MAPS test.  Megan was thrilled that she got the Presidential GOLD Award and was only 1 of 4 who was given it in the school!

 Then all the kids were given their graduation certificates - called by classes.  Because it was a formal event, the girls all word dresses in black or white and the boys either wore suits, ties or dishdashas Kuwaiti style!  Everyone looked great!  There were definitely girls who got their nails and hair done and had special dresses made.

 Megan and her good friend Sarah - they loved that they got to sit next to each other since they are both "S" last names!  For Megan's class, they read through 13 names before the finished the "A" last names!  Almost all Kuwaiti's have last names that start with Al - like the Emir's family is Al Sabah.  Dan thought it was crazy that they were on the 14th kid in the class and his last name finally started with an "E"!

 Megan and Dr. Boyer!  It's been nice that Dr. Boyer has said 2x's in the last month how much they will miss our kids at the school next year.  Some other teachers who are leaving have threatened to take our kids with them to their new posts :)

 They had cake and coffee afterwards.  Each class had their own cake - and they had another contest to design the cake.  This was what was left of Megan's class cake :)  One of the other kids designed it with everyones names on it!  Unfortunately no one in our family wanted anything to eat :(

 Megan and her teacher Mrs. McCurdy!  She was a great teacher and we are thankful that she had her!  Megan started off with a different teacher at the beginning of the year, but he left in October and Mrs. McCurdy took over the class!  We were so thankful for her, because she was the Vice Principal and had taught for years in the 5th grade - we are so glad she stepped in and taught this year!
