Dan and Megan helped out at our church with First Fruits - a service day where youth group kids, families and anyone who wants to spend the day raking leaves, cleaning yards and doing odd jobs for families in the church. Those families pay to have the jobs done. They work hard all day long - from 8am until 5pm and with each job they make, they collect the money. They then take the money to Shoppers and purchase a Thanksgiving meal and other food for a needy family and then they deliver it to the family. They were 2 of 700 volunteers who raised over $40,000 for families in need in 1 day! It was amazing!
Dan drove a car full of 6th grade girls to do jobs - I got the text "It's me, 6 6th grade girls and 1 rake! We'll see how it goes!" They did great, had a great time and got to physically provide for a family that needed it.

They were given a list of what items the family would love from Shoppers and then they could purchase other things. The purchased a ham and turkey, Thanksgiving meal fixing and other foods. Then they delivered it to the family and met them. They were thankful the family was home because some other groups just had to leave it on the doorstep.
And 10:30pm when they finally arrived home! They had left at 7:30am!
We would love to do it as a family next year!
